Job Summary:

The Department of Central Sterile Processing at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a Per Diem Central Sterile Aide / Office Assistant 1 (Stores/Mail). The successful candidate will:

  • Have sat for the New York State Civil Service certification examination for Office Assistant 1 and achieved a reachable score.
  • Distribute and stock medical/surgical supplies to patient care areas.
  • Comply with and maintain records of quantities and types of supplies stocked inpatient care units, and post to the computerized inventory system.
  • Verify computation against the physical account of stock, adjust errors, and report reasons for discrepancies.
  • Maintain and stock patient care units in accordance with established par levels.
  • Prepare reports of items that exceed and/or falls below established par levels.
  • Interact directly with staff members of the user department and Central Sterile Processing to assist in determining the need for additions or deletions in relation to the par level system.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills and the ability to work in a team setting.
  • Demonstrate strong organization, communication, and computer skills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all regulatory requirements including stock rotation and storage principles.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have sat for the New York State Civil Service certification examination for Office Assistant 1 and achieved a reachable score.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to operate various equipment utilized in transporting materials; ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.; ability to stand, bend, twist, and walk as a part of daily job responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in warehouse/distribution is a plus.
