Job Summary:

The Department of Perioperative Services at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Assistant Director of Nursing for Transplant Services. The successful candidate will:

  • Assume responsibility for the department’s daily operations, including scheduling of staff to align with units nursing care hours.
  • Serve as a role model, mentor, and manager, and must use ethical principles to guide decisions and actions that are consistent with University Hospital of Brooklyn (UHB) operating goals and objectives.
  • Must use appropriate policies and procedures in the delivery of quality patient care.
  • Collect and maintain necessary data to support Process Improvement Evidence-Based practice.
  • Ensure the unit council maintains a productive monthly meeting.
  • Develop and implement innovative strategies to promote and foster team spirit and boost morale.
  • Take an active role in managing services.
  • Promote education and professional development for staff, students, and patients.
  • Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team/professional staff members in the development of educational goals for the service.
  • Direct and manage compliance with federal, state, and regulatory agency standards.
  • Monitor and promote the improvement of the patient care process.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
  • New York State Registered Nurse licensure.
  • BLS certification (or must be successfully completed and obtained within 3-months of employment).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of active clinical and management progressive leadership experience.
  • Member of a professional nursing organization.
  • Enrolled in a Master’s Degree program (if Master of Nursing Degree not currently obtained).
  • Acquire certification in both clinical specialty area, and in Nursing Management within the first 2-years of assuming Assistant Director of Nursing role.

Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday; 9:00am to 5:00pm
