Job Summary:

The Department of Clinical Laboratories at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a per diem Histotechnologist, Surgical Pathology and Autopsy. The successful candidate will:

  • Utilize appropriate handling and tissue processing for specimens, and priorities on requested procedures.
  • Perform complex staining techniques and demonstrate competency with immunohistochemical procedures to include in situ hybridization reactions.
  • Perform computer data entry, recall and labeling on complex pathology network (LIS).
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance, cleaning and minor adjustments on all lab equipment.
  • Prepare and examine solutions for contamination, impurities, or instability.
  • Examine microscopically all stained slides and controls to determine accuracy of the last test and make modifications to the procedures as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining accreditation standards, to include all check sheets and quality control information sheets.
  • Maintain archived Histological slides and blocks.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological Sciences or an Allied Health discipline.
  • New York State Certified Histological Technician or Clinical Laboratory Technician or Clinical Laboratory Technologist licensure or eligibility.
  • Experience as a Clinical Technologist.
