Job Summary:

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Sports Medicine Division Administrator/TH Staff Associate. Reporting to the Division Chief and the Executive Administrator of the department, the successful candidate will:

  • Work directly with divisional and department administrators in a “velcro management” style, serving as an active member of the management team and ensuring effective vertical and horizontal communication across the division, department, enterprise, and affiliate organizations.
  • Be accountable for direct reports, which include: Outreach Coordinator, Athletic Trainers, Medical Assistants, Fellowship Coordinator, and Clerical Staff.
  • Function as liaison to the Medical Center by assisting the Chief in obtaining and negotiating University approval for new programs.
  • Coordinate Hospital/University Departments and personnel in the implementation/administration of Sports Medicine programs.
  • Develop strategic short-term (up to 1-year) and long-term (up to 5-years) plans for the Division of Sports Medicine.
  • Draft proposals for the Division to acquire staff and increase services.
  • Recruit attending staff as needed with immediate emphasis on primary care sports medicine and academic Orthopaedic surgeon with a strong academic and research portfolio.
  • Coordinate and monitor the clinical activities of the attending staff; maintain database on faculty activities and productivity; coordinate and manage faculty incentive plans.
  • Establish rapport with individual attendings to enable the free flow of information.
  • Coordinate the clerical staff to maximize patient data collection, resource utilization, managed care contracts, and billing.
  • Utilize Athena HER to coordinate, analyze and report on physician schedules, productivity, waiting times and collections.
  • Represent the Division in interactions with office managers and affiliated administrators at off-campus sites.
  • Inventory office supplies and equipment and oversee purchases and replacements.
  • Administer and manage the departments durable medical equipment (DME) program.
  • Perform customer service surveys, and develop customer service initiatives to improve services.
  • Coordinate the Sports Medicine Lecture Series and expand it into a monthly borough-wide educational seminar.
  • Support the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship in conjunction with the Fellowship Director and Program Coordinator.
  • Manage Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement initiatives for the Division.
  • Work with the Departmental Executive Administrator to determine, build and market new services and business opportunities.
  • Provide support for other institutional or departmental projects as determined by the Department Executive Administrator and Chairperson.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management, Sports Medicine or related field.
  • Master’s Degree in related field.
  • 3+ years of management experience, ideally in a healthcare setting.

Monday to Friday; 7:30am to 4:30pm

SL-4

Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
