Job Summary:

The Department of University Police and Public Safety at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Senior Chauffeur. The successful candidate will:

  • Serve as the personal chauffeur to the President of the institution.
  • Work closely with the Administrative Manager in the Office of the President, regarding scheduling and coordination of the transportation for the President and/or other Senior Administrative Staff. 
  • Demonstrate responsibility for planning routes, checking road condition and ensure arrival at destinations so that the President's commitments are met.
  • Demonstrate responsibility, when not driving the President, for assisting the Transportation Manager with scheduling transportation requests, answering phones, completion of biweekly time sheets for Transportation Staff, and basic clerical duties related to the Transportation Office.
  • Demonstrate accountability for monitoring gauges and checking fluid levels and tire pressure in the vehicle used to transport the President.
  • Keep a written record of trips, mileages, stopovers, purchases of gasoline, oil and other materials, as well as bridge and road tolls.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the President's vehicle and assist with maintenance of the other fleet vehicles including changing tires and inflating to proper pressure, as necessary, replacing windshield wiper blades, adding fluids as appropriate , and checking that all vehicle systems are operating properly. 
  • Demonstrate flexibility, as the Senior Chauffeur may be asked to assist with special assignments, as necessary. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid New York State Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook or other email software.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Must be flexible with the ability to adjust priorities as necessary. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in law enforcement with a demonstrated ability to safeguard confidential information.

Variable Days; Variable Hours

As per civil service guidelines
