Job Summary:

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Administrator / TH Senior Staff Associate. 

This position will have a dual reporting structure to the Department Executive Administrator and the Division Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery.

As a member of Senior Management in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine, the incumbent will coordinate the operations of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery with other hospital divisions and services to achieve the optimum level of healthcare delivery across inpatient and outpatient areas related to the division.

Additionally, the successful candidate will:

  • Oversee and optimize strategy, marketing, finance, and operations for the division.
  • Be responsible for the administrative, clinical direction, and oversight of the staff and services in the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, including Staff Assistants, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Care Coordination.
  • Initiate and manage recruitment and on-boarding of staff in the division.
  • Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures related to the services in the division.
  • Assure compliance with policy and procedures of governing bodies.
  • Oversee budget of all division services, identify staffing needs, and adjust accordingly to maximize value.
  • Participate in hospital-wide committees as needed and assigned.
  • Perform all required paperwork for annual evaluations and recruitment on a timely basis. Maintain hospital files as per hospital policy.
  • Provide monthly reports to the Department Chairman and weekly reports to the Executive Administrator and Division Chief regarding division productivity and performance.
  • Function as a liaison between hospital administration and division staff.
  • Provide administrative support to the Division Chief, including but not limited to on-boarding of physicians and assisting the Residency Program Director & Coordinator with necessary Graduate Medical Education (GME) responsibilities.
  • Serve as a leader and liaison between the division and other hospital departments and services, including attendance at rounds, and leading performance improvement initiatives.
  • Supervise a large number of professional, technical, and clerical personnel within the University Hospital of Brooklyn, the College of Medicine, and the University Physicians of Brooklyn practice plan.
  • Be a role model for other staff and model the WE CARE values of the institution.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in a health related field;
    • OR 7+ years of progressive managerial experience in an acute hospital setting with extensive knowledge of inpatient and outpatient operations across multiple care sites.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, analytical skills, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with a Residency Program and GME preferred.
  • EHR and data system familiarity is a plus. 

Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday; 8:00am to 4:00pm (Full-Time)

SL-5

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
