Job Summary:

The Department of Pediatrics at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Clinical Nutritionist 2. The successful candidate will:
- Provide nutritional assessments and counseling to pediatric patients from birth to 21 years-old in the outpatient pediatric clinic in person, telehealth and group visits for new patients as well as existing patients and same day appointments referred by physicians.
- Provide individual and group counseling on nutrition to prevent/manage disease and promote health.
- Develop and implement nutritional care plans based on assessment of nutritional needs, current nutritional problems and psychosocial studies.
- Consult with physicians and other health care professionals concerning patient's nutrition related problems and psychosocial studies.
- Work collaboratively with all members of the patient's interdisciplinary team including pediatric residents and pediatric attendings.
- Refer patients to other professionals for proper financial assistance and psychosocial interventions
- Conduct anthropometrics measurements including, height and weight and BMI for age and other objective nutritional status and records in Electronic Medical Records.
- Maintain documentation of patient care services in the Electronic Medical Record and other required documentation.
- Communicate nutritional problems, diet information.
- Provide a copy for a special diet, implement therapeutic prescriptions and design appropriate dietary regimens for individual patients after acquiring doctor's orders.
- Design and develop educational materials to assist in patient education and in management of diet related problems.
- Evaluate patient's compliance with prescribed therapeutic diet and suggest appropriate action to be taken.
- Promote patient and/or caretaker independence by establishing nutritional goals; teaching and counseling patient, friends, family and reinforcing proper nutrition.
- Plan and participate in quality assurance studies for nutritional services.
- Coordinate and integrate clinical and administrative aspects of dietetics to provide quality nutritional care.
- Attend professional meetings or continuing educational programs for maintaining registration status.
- Perform all other duties as it relates to specialty.
- Maintain patient confidence and protects operations by monitoring confidential information processing.
- Be flexible as the duties and responsibilities are not limited to the above position description.
