Job Summary:

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Instructional Support Associate / Speech Pathologist Fellow. The successful candidate will:

  • Provide examination and treatment services to patients having dysphagia, dysarthria, cognitive communication disorders.
  • Evaluate and treat patients referred for skilled speech therapy in acute care and acute rehabilitation setting, according to the department’s standard of care.
  • Establish treatment goals and create plan of care to attain established goals.
  • Provide appropriate education to patient and family alike. Provides instruction to the patient, family members and other health care professionals involved in the care of the patient.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and huddles; consults with IDT regarding patient care.
  • Evaluate and submit requests for durable medical equipment and adaptive assistive devices, orthotics, and prosthetic needs.
  • Complete and submit all required patient documentation and billing in electronic medical record and related patient care paperwork.
  • Maintain department productivity standards and procedures.
  • Manage patient assignment lists, billing, and treatment related records.
  • Coordinates, participate, and provide department onboarding/orientation, departmental/interdepartmental in-services, and other professional development activities.
  • Provides supervision to rehabilitation aide and volunteers.
  • Adhere to all compliance regulations, licensure requirements, and federal and state regulations.
  • Be a role model of professionalism; model the WE CARE values of the institution.
  • Demonstrate flexibility as the duties and responsibilities are not limited to the above position description; perform other job related duties as needed and/or as business need demands.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology.
  • Entry Level (0 to 3-years experience). 
  • New York State Speech Language Pathologist License or Temporary License/Permit. 
  • Completion & passing of New York State PRAXIS exam. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in acute rehab and acute care settings.
  • MBS and FEE experience.
  • BLS certification. 

Work Schedule:

Sunday to Thursday; 9:00am to 5:00pm (Full-Time)

SL-2

Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
