Job Summary:
|
The Office of Affiliations at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Staff Associate / Financial Data Analyst.
The Financial Data Analyst provides advanced fiscal and analytical support to the Office of Affiliations, and the Dean's Office to analyze, model, and report financial data across SUNY Downstate's academic, research clinical enterprises. The incumbent will be responsible for developing data models, performing quantitative analysis using advanced analytics tools (including SAS), and preparing reports that inform strategic, operational, and compliance related decisions.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive financial and operational data analysis using SAS and other data analytics tools to identify trends, forecast financial outcomes, and support decision-making.
- Develop and maintain data models, dashboards, and automated reporting processes that track revenue, expenditures, and fund flows across affiliated entities.
- Liaise with Office of Affiliations, COM Dean's Office, the Finance Office, and external departments to collect, validate, and interpret financial and compliance-related data.
- Prepare detailed analytical reports, data visualizations, and presentations for use by the Dean's Office and senior leadership.
- Collaborate with internal and external auditors to coordinate and prepare audit-ready documentation and reconcile financial data.
- Serve as a data liaison for the Joint Oversight Committee QOC), ensuring timely submission of reports, alignment with committee requirements, and accurate representation of financial performance.
- Support the preparation of annual and multi-year budgets, including financial projections, cost analyses, and expenditure tracking.
- Conduct regular variance analysis to monitor budget-to-actual performance and recommend corrective actions or process improvements.
- Ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial data across multiple systems, improving efficiency in data collection, reconciliation, and reporting processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the financial and administrative operations of the Office of Affiliations and COM Dean's Office.

Required Qualifications:
|
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in financial data analysis, modeling, or fiscal reporting, preferably within an academic medical or public-sector institution.
- Proficiency in SAS and other data analytics or statistical software.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (data modeling, pivot tables, advanced formulas).
- Strong ability to interpret and present complex financial data clearly and concisely.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
|
- Master's Degree in Finance, Business Analytics, or related discipline.
- Experience with SUNY, Research Foundation, or NYS fiscal and reporting systems.
- Familiarity with Oracle, Power BI, or Tableau for visualization and data integration.
- Experience supporting academic or clinical financial operations and affiliated partnership reporting.
