Job Summary:

The Department of Psychiatry at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a part-time Clinical Assistant Professor (HS) / Psychiatry Residency Program Director. The successful candidate will be accountable for:

Leadership & Administration

  • Oversee the organization, operation, and administration of the Psychiatry Residency Program.
  • Ensure compliance with ACGME common and psychiatry-specific program requirements.

Educational Oversight

  • Design and implement curriculum, rotations, and didactic sessions.
  • Ensure quality of education across all participating clinical sites.

Resident Management

  • Recruit and select residents via the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP).
  • Provide mentorship, advising, and career guidance.
  • Oversee resident evaluation, promotion, disciplinary actions, and wellness initiatives.

Faculty Engagement

  • Recruit and develop faculty.
  • Ensure faculty participation in teaching, supervision, and scholarly activity.
  • Monitor faculty performance and development.

Compliance & Accreditation

  • Maintain accurate records and submit required documentation to ACGME and institutional GME office.
  • Conduct annual program evaluations and participate In Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER).
  • Oversee and administer annual program updates and site visit preparations.
  • Ensure adherence to duty hour policies, moonlighting rules, and grievance procedures.

Scholarly Activity

  • Promote and participate in research, publications, and presentations.
  • Encourage resident involvement in scholarly work.

Institutional Collaboration

  • Report to the Department Chair and Designated Institutional Official.
  • Participate in Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) meetings and initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • MD/DO Degree.
  • New York State Medical Doctor/Physician Licensure.
  • 3+ years of experience post-training, with prior experience in clinical education program leadership (residency or fellowship program director, medical student clerkship director or equivalent). 
  • Board Certified or eligible in General Psychiatry.
