Job Summary:

The Department of Facilities Management & Development at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Electrical Shop Supervisor, Assistant Facilities Program Coordinator. The successful candidate will: 

  • Work from blueprints and schematics.
  • Plan and lay out work assignments; confirm that work specifications conform with the National Electrical Code.
  • Supervise the proper installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment in accordance with established trade methods and procedures.
  • Direct and coordinate a variety of installation, repair, and maintenance tasks performed by Electricians, Trades Helpers, Laborers, and/or other trades personnel.
  • Evaluate and verify employee performance through the review of completed work assignments and work techniques.
  • Maintain records, prepares reports, and composes correspondence relative to the work.
  • Requisition and/or purchases supplies, materials, and tools. Estimates cost of materials needed to accomplish tasks and projects.
  • Inspect and evaluate electrical equipment to ensure that it operates efficiently and safely; determines whether equipment and new installations meet requirements of the National Electrical Code.
  • Inspect buildings in order to determine electrical maintenance needs by visual observation, gauges, meters, and other test equipment.
  • Study blueprints and schematics in order to plan the material and labor needed to accomplish tasks.

Required Qualifications:

  • Considerable knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Knowledge of electrical Lockout Tagout procedures per Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines.
  • Considerable knowledge of electrical power generating equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of basic computer software (Word, Excel, Adobe, Zoom, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6-years full-time satisfactory experience as a Journeyman Electrician and/or 4-years in an Electrical Supervisory capacity acquired within the last fifteen years.  

Work Schedule:

Variable Days; 8:00am to 4:00pm (Full-Time)

SL-3

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
