Job Summary:

The Physical Therapy Program in the School of Health Professions at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Associate or Full Professor (12 MO) and Program Chair (Tenure Track). Responsibilities for the position will include, but is not limited to: 

  • Program leadership
  • Management of daily program operations
  • Budget management
  • Program assessment and improvement
  • Strategic planning
  • Accreditation
  • Curriculum development and modification
  • Faculty/staff hiring and retention
  • Student recruitment and retention
  • Teaching
  • Research
  • Mentoring and faculty development
  • Service (to SOHP, University, profession)

Required Qualifications:

  • Holds an active, unencumbered Physical Therapist License in any United States jurisdiction and is in compliance with the State Practice Act in New York State.
  • Current rank of associate or full professor, or clinical associate or clinical professor, with eligibility to be appointed as associate or full professor.
  • Has an earned academic doctoral degree from an accredited university (i.e., PhD, EdD, DSc).
  • Has a minimum of 6-years of full-time higher education experience, with a minimum of 3-years of full-time experience as a core faculty member in a CAPTE-accredited entry-level physical therapist education program.
  • Has experience in administration, management, and leadership.
  • Has professional development or education in educational theory and methodology, instructional design, student evaluation, and outcome assessment.
  • Has experience in fiscal management.
  • Is familiar with CAPTE accreditation requirements.
  • Has prior engagement at the academy/academic institutional level (i.e., faculty senate).
  • Is an active American Physical Therapy (APTA) member.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Has at least 5-years of clinical physical therapy practice experience.
  • Board certification in a PT specialty.
  • Record of research productivity (i.e., publications and grants).
  • Minimum of 3-years in a leadership role in physical therapy academia.
  • Experience in preparing for CAPTE reaccreditation self-study and on-site visit, annual accreditation reports, and curriculum specific to current and future CAPTE standards.
