Job Summary:

The Department of Patient Access at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Registrar/Staff Assistant 2. The successful candidate will:

  • Interview and verify demographic, biographic, and financial information with the patient and/or family members in order to complete a registration, using the Eagle Database System.
  • Verify insurance eligibility of all patients through EMEV(Medicaid), EBLC (Blue Cross), and Relay (for all commercial insurances).
  • Distribute information relating to patient rights and the HIPAA privacy law; obtain patient signature on all necessary forms authorizing consent and acknowledgement receipt.
  • Reconcile all patient charts.
  • Assist patients or family members with inquiries.
  • Admit patients utilizing the Orchestrate System; convert an outpatient registration to inpatient; assign beds to all admitted patients; perform bed transfers in Eagle Database System to ensure patient is in correct room in order for attending physician to locate patient in Health Bridge.
  • Adhere to all regulatory standards.
  • Attend all registration meetings and complete all training in a timely manner.
  • Order laboratory tests utilizing the Cerner Database System, and retrieve results upon request.
  • Demonstrate flexibility as the duties and responsibilities of the position are not limited to the above tasks.

Required Qualifications:

  • Good communication skills and computer literacy is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of third-party billing in Managed Care is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 1-year of hospital-based experience is preferred.

Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
